One thing everyone is accustomed to do is to cry out NO! THIS WILL NEVER WORK. There's no way to make a living off of X. Never fear! The great Alan Watts is here to say otherwise! He comes to you in wonderful webcomic format from the lovely people at Zenpencils! LINK
(Oh look! Is that an artist finding a niche and making a living off of his passion? Heh, funny how that works.)

Now that you have been deeply moved and convinced that your dream can be more than some nice thoughts and can in fact turn into your living, you'll need to start working towards that dream. No matter what you chose to do remember one thing: TALENT AIN'T SHIT. HARD WORK,
DETERMINATION, AND CONSISTENT OUTPUT IS WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED. I
mean every word of that. Hell, everyone's favorite thrift shopping white Irish rapper; Macklemore knows what I'm talking about:
"..the greats weren't great because at birth they could paint, the greats were great because they'd paint a lot.." (From "Ten Thousand Hours" off of The Heist by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis)

That's the formula! Work hard and work at it a lot and you'll find yourself making out with success while perched high on your mountain of success (or cash?) feeling pretty fucking good about the whole thing.
I consider all of us to be living in a time where realizing our dreams has never been easier. There are so many ways to bring yourself to the masses. No longer are writers bound to publishing houses. Self-publishing through e-books is an incredibly viable option! Musicians don't have to peddle demos locally. Youtube, Soundcloud, Facebook, and Twitter promote their music to a much wider audience with much more efficiency! Not to mention, music making technology has never been more accessible. Web developers are turning simple ideas into incredible start-ups that breed communities and very real revenue streams. E-sports enthusiasts are making real money making youtube videos or shoutcasting professional games. Strength athletes are finding new life offering personal training programs and e-books on their training philosophies and programs. You've got a legion of individuals making money on Etsy selling their handmade goods. For those of us that wish to create there are limitless opportunities and paths to take our passions and talents and turn them into careers.
Many seemingly boring white-collar jobs can be turned into incredible products. Accountants could turn around and write blogs, books, or budgeting software to help average Joe balance the budget a little easier. Contractors could start a DIY project blog or DIY question/answer podcast for home repair and home projects. Arrogant goal-obsessed writers could start a blog helping those to realize their dream in a thinly veiled attempt to be worshiped as a hero. The point I'm beating the dead horse with is thus: You have a unique skillset that you can use to break the 9 to 5 format with. You don't have to be behind a desk, counter, steering wheel, or headset if you don't want to. With hard work, belief in yourself, and commitment you will go incredibly far. All the product ideas earlier? I thought of in a few seconds (damn I'm good, are you worshiping me yet?). The best part? There are thousands of different ways to use your talents to create a great career AND there are employers out there looking for your skillset if you are willing to look. You don't have to fly solo, you can be a satisfied employee programming wonderful new features for a company's kickass product. The possibilities are endless.
Take a chance on yourself. BB Out.
