What's the Ending to Your Story?

Within the last couple of days I've finished reading "The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter--And How to Make the Most of Them Now" by Meg Jay (a book I saw highly recommended on TheArtofManliness.com).  As a twentysomething and someone who loves things that are essentially about himself I was able to find incredible amounts of perspective and advice that I can truly apply to my life. I highly recommend this book.

One thing I avoid is that feeling of drifting, just making it through the day.  I am going to die eventually and there is a lot in my life that I want to do.  "Just making it" doesn't gel with me.  I want to improve and keep going, but sometimes between motivation and a feeling of being "lost" not knowing where to go or start, I put things off.  This has bitten me in the ass more than once.

"Write down your ending, what is it YOU want, and then work backwards."  This is the piece of advice that really shifted things into the right light, made everything a matter of "now" not the endless shifting mass that is "the future."

What are the things that I want in life?  What are the things I imagine having?  I realized very quickly, that I needed to get moving on a number of things.

Here's my list:

  • Big Piece of Property
  • Dream House Castle/Fort Shit.  Big Library.
  • Strong as a fucking Ox.
  • Toys. (For clarification: Dirt bikes, street bikes, a lego collection only an adult could muster)
  • Married.
  • Personal Trainer.
  • Gym Owner.
  • Graduate in Kinesioligy and English.
  • Successful Blogger.
  • Published Author.
  • Nest egg for retirement.
  • Can rip up a guitar solo something proper.

Then with that in my mind I worked backwards and quickly came to find out, the time is fucking now.  I need to be in school, I need to be working on my cert, I need to be working on the quality of my posts, I need to start looking at guest posting, but most importantly, I need to quit putting limits on myself and look to the horizon.

I implore you, do this exercise, and take a step back and look at the things YOU want and find out what its going to take to get there.  Then DO IT.

Trust me, you'll be better off for it.

BB Out.
