Some of our favorite websites and services generally act as both a blessing and a curse. Although they provide easy access to things we like they also have a tendency to suck up way too much time. So I have put together a number of strategies to help you stay focused.
If you're like me, you really can't just delete your Facebook. It's a legitimate way to communicate, and it has a variety of uses. Problem is, it still has a way of reminding you it's there, and it sidetracks you easily with those little dopamine triggering notifications. What I have here is different ways to regulate your time on facebook.
1. Use Add-ons to give yourself Daily Timers
Mind the Time- Will give you a running timer of how long you've been on a certain site (with more features)
Time Limiter-The next step if a reminder doesn't do it, this will block a website after a certain period of time
2. Augment what Facebook notifications you see
-Click The Globe on your Facebook page (where all your notifications are)
-Hover over your notifications and an "X" will appears (upper right corner) this will disable that type of notification.
In addition you can also change your phone's notification settings as well. My phone vibrating is too effective at getting my attention.
Reddit:
Reddit is a wonderful website. Full of resources and can connect you to those who share the same interests as you. However, r/adviceanimals is going to destroy your productivity. I recommend editing your subscriptions. Remove time-sucking meme loving subreddits in lieu of subreddits like r/getmotivated, r/fitness, r/getdisciplined, or r/beards.
Productivity Website Shout-out!
Coffitivity-This site gives you the background noise of a busy coffee shop, works wonders. Follow the instructions and give it a shot!
